COLLEGEVILLE, PA - With the game tied at 2-2 with 25 minutes still to play, the Haverford field hockey team got a pair of goals in less than two minutes to take the lead for good as the Fords beat Johns Hopkins, 6-2, on Saturday in the Centennial Conference semifinals at Ursinus. The Blue Jays finish their season at 11-7 overall, while the Fords win their sixth straight to improve to 13-4 and advance to Sunday's championship game.

Haverford took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Bryn Bissey at 14:08 off an assist from Bridge Gibbons. Eight minutes later, the Fords led by two as Margaret Selsor tipped in a shot from Christine Gall. Hopkins cut the deficit to one just before the half-time horn. Junior Ali Bahneman sent a pass across the mouth of the cage that was tipped in by sophomore Meghan Kellett with just six seconds on the clock.

Coming out of the break, the Blue Jays needed just over nine minutes to tie the game. Sophomore Sam Stuek did the honors at 44:10 on a hard shot from the top left of the circle. The Fords answered quickly however, scoring two goals in a span of just one minute and 41 seconds to push out to a 4-2 lead. Mary Hobbs put Haverford back on top when she forced a turnover deep in the Hopkins end, went one-on-one with junior goalie Kim Stein and scored at 46:18. The Fords then cashed in on a corner to make it a two-goal game. Alex Waleko scored off the corner with assists from Roxanne Jaffe and Hobbs.

Haverford got another pair of quick goals, at 53:41 and 58:48, to put the game out of reach. Juliana Morgan-Trostle scored an unassisted tally to make it 5-2. Hobbs then followed with her second of the game off a feed from Alyssa Mayo.

Stein finished with eight saves, while Haverford's Maggie Cronin also had eight. The Fords had the edge in shots (27-19) and corners (12-8) and will play in the Centennial Conference championship game for the first time in program history.
