Haverford Rally Stuns Hopkins, 58-54

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's basketball fell to Haverford, 58-54 at Goldfarb Gym in their Pink Zone game. Haverford freshman Nina Voith led all scorers in the game with 22. The Blue Jays fall to 12-9 overall and 10-7 in the Centennial Conference. The Fords improve to 6-16 and 4-14 in the conference.

This is Haverford's first-ever win against Hopkins, dating back to 1994.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 19-5 lead after an old-fashioned three-point play by junior Lyndsay Burton (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) with 13:21 remaining in the first half. This would be Hopkins' biggest lead of the game.

Haverford went on a 22-7 run to take a 27-26 lead at the 4:24 mark. The run was capped by a lay-up from freshman Meredith Schoyer.

Hopkins took the lead right back on a jumper by freshman Alex Vassila (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) and took a 34-30 lead at halftime.

Haverford took a 37-36 lead at 14:52 on one of Voith's three 3-pointers in the second half. The would change hands six more times in the half.

Hopkins took its last lead of the game at 47-46 with 8:08 remaining after a three-point play by junior Nia Josiah (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson).

Senior Sara Cram then tied the game at 47 apiece by making a shot from the charity stripe and Voith gave the Fords the lead by draining a 3-pointer.

Hopkins came within one point at 1:11 after senior Monica Mitchell"s (Reynoldsburg, OH/Reynoldsburg) back-to-back free-throws to make the score 55-54. The Blue Jays could not get the ball to enter the basket again and Voithi added two more points for Haverford and freshman Calla Miller hit a free-throw shot to clinch the 58-54 victory.

The Blue Jays were 4-for-23 (.174) from the floor in the second half and 15-for-47 (.319) in the game while Haverford shot 20-for-46 (.435) in the game.

Burton led the Blue Jays with 13 points. Miller finished with 12 points for the Fords.

The Blue Jays return to action on Monday, February 15 when they travel to Swarthmore to face the Garnet. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
