Paulsen Closes Indoor Career at NCAA Championships

March 13, 2010

GREENCASTLE, IN - Johns Hopkins senior Laura Paulsen closed the indoor track portion of her career by competing in the one-mile run and the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships on Saturday afternoon. Paulsen, the most accomplished runner in Johns Hopkins history, had qualified for the finals in the mile with a second-place finish in the preliminaries on Friday. There were no prelims for the 5,000.

Paulsen opened her double-dip with the mile run early Saturday afternoon and finished 10th with a time of 5:15.72. Just over two hours later, she came back and ran the 5,000 in 17:58.83 to place 14th. Officially the top eight runners in each event at the NCAA Championships score team points for their team.

Paulsen, the 2010 Mideast Regional Runner of the Year for the indoor season, will conclude her record-breaking career this spring as she competes with the Johns Hopkins outdoor team.
