BALTIMORE, MD - The 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team rolled to its 39th straight Centennial Conference win, shutting out visiting Gettysburg, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon. The win is the Blue Jays seventh straight and 10th in their last 11 matches. Hopkins improves to 12-7 overall and 9-0 in the Centennial Conference, while Gettysburg slips to 10-6 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
In doubles action, Hopkins dropped just three games in pushing out to a 3-0 lead in the match. Freshman Nandita Krishnan (Chennai, India/Sishya School) and sophomore Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) won 8-1 at first over Katie Taylor and Meghan Kelly. Senior Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and junior Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) then beat Meg Kelly and Liz Heisler, 8-1, at third. The win for Berlinghof was her 70th career doubles win and her 33rd conference doubles win, breaking the school record held by Brittany Matava '09. Sophomore Courtney Boger (Doylestown, PA/Doylestown) and freshman Candace Wu (Yorba Linda, CA/Valencia) closed out doubles with an 8-1 win over Kelly Eurich and Lydia MacKenzie at second.
Hopkins then swept all six singles matches in straight sets, dropping just 11 games in the process. Boger pushed Hopkins lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at fifth over Meg Kelly for her eighth straight win. Krishnan then clinched the match for the Blue Jays and won her team-best 16th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eurich at second. Warren did not drop a game in her win at first, as she beat Taylor 6-0, 6-0. Willenborg followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over MacKenzie at third. Freshman Andrea Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) also dropped just two games in her win at fourth, beating Meghan Kelly, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Renata Smith (Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island) wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth over Heisler.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 24 in a wrap up of the regular season. The Blue Jays open the day with their final regular season conference match at Haverford at noon. Hopkins will then travel to Delaware for a 3:30 pm matchup with the Blue Hens.
