LANCASTER, PA - For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, Johns Hopkins senior quarterback Hewitt Tomlin (Jackson, TN/Trinity Christian) has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Tomlin fueled JHU's 83-21 win at Gettysburg on Saturday with a record-breaking performance.
Tomlin was 39-of-52 for 501 yards and seven touchdowns in the victory at Gettysburg. His marks for completions, yards, touchdown passes and total offense (505) are all Johns Hopkins single-game records. His seven TD passes tied the Centennial Conference record, while his 501 passing yards rank second in league history. His 39 completions and 505 yards of total offense both rank third in CC history. He also set a school record for passing yards in a half with 304 in the first half as JHU rolled to a 42-7 halftime lead.
Tomlin's efforts against Gettysburg came one week after a 390-yard passing performance against Dickinson. His 501 yards at Gettysburg give him a JHU and CC-record 891 yards over the last two games.
Despite missing two games, Tomlin is now 129-of-188 (.686) for 1,664 yards with 18 touchdowns against just two interceptions this season. He leads the Centennial Conference in completion percentage, touchdown passes, passing yards per game (332.8), total offense per game (333.4) and pass efficiency (172.4).
With Tomlin leading the way, the Blue Jays are currently 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference. Johns Hopkins was ranked 14th in last week's AFCA Poll, 18th by d3football.com and sixth in the Lambert Cup Poll. New rankings will be announced on Monday.
The Blue Jays (7-0, 6-0 CC) will carry a school-record 12-game winning streak into Saturday's showdown against Ursinus (5-2, 5-1 CC). The Blue Jays can secure the league's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Playoffs and no worse than a share of the Centennial Conference title with a victory against the Bears.
