BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins offensive line has been named to the d3football.com Team of the Week for its efforts in last week's 83-21 win at Gettysburg. The d3football.com Team of the Week is selected each week during the football season with one individual named to the team at each position. The exception is the offensive line, where entire units are nominated for their performance as a group in the previous week's game. While more than five players typically see time on the offensive line during a game for the Blue Jays, only the starting unit is listed.
With seniors Ed Rodger (C), Doug Drummond (G) and Roland Massimino (T) and sophomores Armand Jenifer (T) and Ben Cranston (G) leading the way, Johns Hopkins rolled up school records of 731 yards of total offense, 545 passing yards, 39 first downs, 56 pass attempts, 43 completions, seven touchdown passes and 100 plays from scrimmage. Johns Hopkins scored on six of its first seven possessions to take a 42-7 halftime lead and never looked back.
The performance of the offensive line last week parallels the effort of the unit throughout the season. The group, which also includes sophomore Vincenzo Bonaddio regularly seeing time at guard, has helped Johns Hopkins to a 7-0 start to the season. The Blue Jays currently rank second in the nation in total offense (521.9) and third in scoring offense (47.6) and passing offense (342.6). Johns Hopkins has scored at least 27 points in all seven games this season and has topped the 40-point mark five times.
Johns Hopkins is ranked 12th in this week's AFCA Division III Poll, the highest in-season ranking in school history. The Blue Jays will carry a school-record 12-game winning streak into Saturday's showdown with Ursinus. Hopkins' 6-0 record currently leads the Centennial Conference with the Bears checking in one game behind at 5-1. A win for the Blue Jays would secure the league's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Playoffs and no worse than a share of the Centennial Conference title.
