Hopkins Ranked 2nd in Official NCAA South Region Rankings

Nov. 2, 2011

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins football team is ranked second in the official NCAA South Region Football Poll, which was released for the first time in the 2011 season today. The ranking is the latest for the Blue Jays, who are currently ranked 11th in the AFCA National Poll, 14th in the d3football.com Poll and fourth in the Lambert Meadowlands Poll. This is the highest Johns Hopkins has ever been ranked in the official NCAA regional rankings.

Mary Hardin-Baylor earned the top spot in the South Region and currently sports an 8-0 overall record. Johns Hopkins (8-0) checks in at number two and is followed by Wesley (7-1), Trinity (TX) (8-0) and McMurry (6-2) to round out the top five. Each of the four regions (north, east, south, west) have 10 teams listed in the rankings.

The regional rankings are compiled by the official Regional Advisory Committee and are a more accurate representation of where teams stand in the eyes of the NCAA Selection Committee that will put together the bracket for the upcoming NCAA Division III Football Playoffs. Johns Hopkins has already secured a spot in the playoffs as the Blue Jays secured the Centennial Conference's automatic bid with a 37-9 win over Ursinus last Saturday.

The bracket for the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs will be announced on Sunday, November 13 at 6 pm. First round games will take place on campus on Saturday, November 19.
