BALTIMORE, MD - The 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team shut out visiting Franklin & Marshall, 9-0, on Friday night to win its fourth straight match. The Blue Jays improve to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Diplomats fall to 0-9 and 0-3 in the conference.
Hopkins took a 3-0 lead in the match after sweeping all three doubles while losing just one game. Freshman Hailey Hogan and sophomore Nandita Krishnan won at first, beating Valeri Harteg and Anya Sahaydacjny by an 8-1 score. Freshman Brooke Pottish and junior Carolyn Warren rolled to an 8-0 win at second over Chelsea Bush and Shannon Littlefield. Junior Courtney Boger and freshman Abby Clark, won by an identical 8-0 score at third over Kelly Mehr and Meryl Schulman.
In singles action, the Blue Jays took all six matches to complete the sweep. At first, Krishnan lost just one game en route to a 6-1, 6-0 over Sahaydacjny. Sophomore Ariel Several turned the same trick at second, beating Harteg, 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Yoko Hirase dropped just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Littlefield at third. Boger won 12 straight games at fourth to beat Katherine Sutton, 6-0, 6-0. The matches at fifth and sixth were played in pro sets. Junior Vanessa Charubhumi beat Victoria Lussier 8-2 at fifth and freshman Lauren Fields won 8-1 at sixth over Bush.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 2 as the Blue Jays travel to Collegeville, PA to take on Ursinus. The Centennial Conference match is slated to start at 1:00 pm.
