BABSON PARK, MA - Host Babson College scored a pair of goals before the game was eight minutes old and got 13 saves from senior goalie Jess Pashos to beat Johns Hopkins, 3-2, in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays suffer their first loss of the season to fall to 2-1, while the Beavers win their second straight to improve to 3-1.

Morgan Lockwood got the home team on the board just 4:15 into the game. Following a Babson corner, Julia Pochini settled the ball and passed to Lockwood who fired a hard shot inside the right post to make it 1-0 Babson. Carolina Malone pushed the lead to two just over three minutes later. Lockwood collected a rebound off a Kim Stein save and found Malone open for the goal and the quick 2-0 lead.

Hopkins got on the board at 28:22 off a corner from Liane Tellier to cut the deficit to one. Junior Maggie Phillips controlled a rebound off a hard shot from outside the circle off the corner and beat Pashos to the near post for her team-best fourth goal of the season. Exactly ten minutes later, Babson's lead was back to two off a Hannah Feneberg strike. Feneberg took a short pass from Lockwood and put it home give Babson a 3-1 lead. The Blue Jays once again answered to make it a one-goal game as Tellier converted on a hard shot off a corner at 53:02. Hopkins' best chance to tie the game came with just under six minutes to play as senior Carly Bianco and Phillips just missed from point-blank range. Bianco broke in on the Babson net, but Pashos came off her line to make a diving stop, and after controlling the rebound, Phillips lifted her shot just over the cage as Babson preserved its slim lead.

Stein finished with six saves in the loss, while Pashos posted 13, including eight in the first half, for the win. Hopkins held a 22-18 advantage in shots while corners were even at 11 apiece.

The Blue Jays have a quick turn around as they make the 15-mile trek to Cambridge, MA to take on MIT. The non-conference game is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
