Hopkins Places Five on All-ECAC Football Team

Jan. 11, 2012

CENTERVILLE, MA - The Johns Hopkins football team set numerous offensive records during the 2011 season and four starters from that unit were among the five Blue Jays named to the 2011 All-ECAC South Football Team that was announced today. All five Hopkins players selected were named to the second team.

Senior quarterback Hewitt Tomlin (Jackson, TN/Trinity Christian), senior center Ed Rodger (Glen Ridge, NJ/St. Peters Prep), senior tackle Roland Massimino (Lake Barrington, IL/Barrington), sophomore tackle Armand Jenifer (Teaneck, NJ/Bergen County Academies) and senior safety Michael Milano (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) all earned a selection to the team.

Tomlin was 225-of-334 for 2,683 yards with 24 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions on the year. He threw for 200 or more yards in eight of the nine games he played, including a school-record 501-yard, seven-touchdown masterpiece at Gettysburg. He was previously named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Centennial and Third Team d3football.com All-South Region.

Rodger, Massimino and Jenifer anchored a line that paved the way for an offense that averaged school records of 39.8 points and 492.7 yards per game. All three were First Team All-Centennial selections as the Blue Jay offense finished second nationally in yards per game and 12th in points per game. Rodger, Massimino and Jenifer each started all 11 games on the year with Rodger and Jenifer also grabbing Second Team d3football.com All-South honors as well.

Milano, a three-time First Team All-Centennial selection at safety, missed one game with an injury, but still totaled 50 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and four pass breakups. He led a JHU pass defense that allowed just 141.2 passing yards per game and just eight touchdown passes in 11 games. JHU's 11 opponents completed just 48.4 of their pass attempts this season and Milano was also a Second Team d3football.com All-South selection.

Johns Hopkins posted a 10-1 record, won the Centennial Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Playoffs for the second time in the last three years. The Blue Jays were ranked in the top 25 throughout the season and had a school-record 15-game winning streak before falling in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. The Centennial Conference title was the third straight and seventh in the last 10 years for Johns Hopkins.
