Johns Hopkins Takes Down Towson, 148-127

TOWSON, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team made the short trip to Burdick Pool and defeated host Towson, 148-127, in the Blue Jays' first of two scheduled meets this weekend. The Blue Jays remain unbeaten on the season, improving to 7-0, while the Tigers fall to 3-7. JHU won 10 of the 12 scored swimming events before swimming exhibitions in the final two events.

Hopkins opened the meet in impressive fashion, taking the first three spots in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Dylan Davis, Timothy Nam, Carter Gisriel and Eddy Zandee won the relay in 1:34.74. Following closely in second were Dylan Coggin, Joe Acquaviva, Nick Schmidt and Ben Tillar with a time of 1:35.14. While Sean Glass, Alex Polyak, Joseph Connors and Tyler Woods finished in third place in 1:37.81.

In the 1000 Free, Alec Contag placed fifth in 10:15.92 while James Weber finished in sixth in 10:34.82. Schmidt then earned the first of his two wins on the night, winning the 200 Free in 1:43.82. Will Kimball touched in third with a time of 1:45.95. Coggin and Davis then combined to go one-two in the 100 Back. Coggin finished in 52.47 to just edge Davis by 0.06 seconds for first place. Nam followed with a win in the 100 Breast with a time of 58.85. Acquaviva claimed second in 59.76 and Gideon Hou claimed fourth in 1:02.36.

Gregory Kogut won the 200 Fly, touching in 1:55.12. The Blue Jays followed that by sweeping the top three spots in the 50 Free. Zandee took the win as he finished in 21.55 to just beat Gisriel, who touched in 21.66. Tillar claimed third with a time of 22.23. Gisriel then won the 100 Free in another close one, edging Woods by 0.09 seconds for the win. Davis won the 200 Back, touching in 1:54.21, while Brad Hunt touched in 2:00.60 for fourth place.

The 200 Breast saw the Blue Jays claim first and second, with Polyak taking the win in 2:10.24 and Acquaviva taking second in 2:11.85. Matt Watson finished fourth in the 500 Free, finishing in 4:50.05 while Berkay Polat finished in fifth in 4:54.97. The Blue Jays showed their depth again in the 100 Fly, sweeping first through third. Schmidt earned his second win of the day, touching in 51.83. Joseph Connors placed second in 52.57, followed by Woods in third in 53.22. Hopkins swam exhibitions in the final two events - the 200 IM and the 400 Free Relay.

Fifth-ranked Hopkins returns to the pool tomorrow morning when the Blue Jays travel to Lexington, VA to take on 19th-ranked Washington & Lee. The meet is slated to start at 11:00 am.
