LEXINGTON, VA - Johns Hopkins rank its win streak to eight on Saturday with a 154-105 win over host Washington & Lee. The Blue Jays' improve to 8-0 on the season and their eight dual-meet wins are the most in a season since Hopkins went 9-4 in 2004-05. The Generals see their win streak ended at four while they fall to 8-4 in their final dual meet of the season.
The Blue Jays won 11 of 12 scored events before swimming exhibitions in the 200 IM and the 200 Free Relay. Dylan Coggin and Dylan Davis led Hopkins with two individual wins apiece. In all eight different swimmers won an individual event for the Blue Jays.
Hopkins opened the morning by winning the 200 Medley Relay as the team of Joe Acquaviva, Timothy Nam, Carter Gisriel and Coggin combined for a time of 1:34.75 to win by nearly two seconds. Davis, Alex Polyak, Joseph Connors and Ben Tillar would finish in third with a time of 1:37.22. In the 1000 Free, Berkay Polat and Alec Contag went one-two for the Blue Jays. Polat earned the win as he touched in 10:04.29, while Contag finished in a career-best 10:10.55.
Coggin and Will Kimball combined to go one-two in the 200 Free. Coggin paced the field with a time of 1:44.09 to earn the win. Kimball followed in second with a time of 1:45.34. The 100 Back, saw Hopkins claim the top two spots for the third straight event. Davis earned the first of his two wins, with the best time in the 100 Back, touching in 52.29. Acquaviva finished in 53.42 to place second.
The Blue Jays did themselves one better in the 100 Breast, sweeping first through third, to add 16 points to their total. Nam led the way with a time of 59.36, followed by Gideon Hou (1:01.52) and Polyak (1:01.53). Gregory Kogut followed with a win in the 200 Fly, touching in 1:57.10, while Nick Schmidt placed second in 1:57.98. Washington & Lee picked up its lone win in the 50 Free as Rick Sykes finished in 21.29. Gisriel would take second with a time of 21.75, while Tillar took third in 22.26.
Coggin earned his second win of the day in the 100 Free, clocking in at 47.16. Aaron Kitrikh would take fourth in 49.11. Davis then won his second event, taking the top spot in the 200 Back with a time of 1:51.38, nearly three seconds ahead of W&L's Christopher Washnock. Acquaviva would finish in third place as he touched in 1:57.72. Polyak won the 200 Breast, finishing in 2:12.54. While Hou took third place in 2:16.04.
Schmidt the won the 500 Free with a time of 4:52.74 and Contag followed in second in 4:57.66. Hopkins wrapped up its scoring events with the 100 Fly as Gisriel just edged out the W&L's Brian Stirling for the win in 51.72. Connors took third in 52.25.
Hopkins closes out the dual-meet portion of its season on Friday, February 3 as the Blue Jays make the short trip to Annapolis, MD to take on the Navy Midshipmen. The meet at Lejeune Hall is slated to begin at 4:30 pm.
