Box Score

CARLISLE, PA - Host Dickinson scored with less than two minutes to play in regulation to tie the game and then scored with nearly 13 minutes gone in overtime to defeat Johns Hopkins, 4-3, in Centennial Conference field hockey action Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays slip to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference with their fifth overtime game of the season. The Red Devils improve to 7-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference and earn their first win over JHU since 2004.

Hopkins took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Alexa Lantiere scored just 8:07 in off an assist from senior Sam Stuek. Less than three minutes later, Caroline Karwel tied the game with a penalty stroke goal. Senior Meghan Kellett pushed the Blue Jays back on top at 25:37 when she put home the rebound off a shot by Lantiere. The lead stood for more than 20 minutes before Dickinson tied it up. Tanya Bellingham took a shot that was saved by senior Elizabeth Peijnenburg, but Alyssa Stillwell collected the rebound and put it home at 46:57 to make it 2-2.

Hopkins took its third lead of the game just over 10 minutes later off a penalty corner. Senior Liane Tellier inserted the corner and the ball ended up back on her stick as she buried a pass from freshman Elena Gresick with 12:23 to play to make it a 3-2 game. But the Red Devils weren't going away and Stillwell tied the game again when she scored while lying on the ground with just 1:50 to play to force overtime. Allison Forhan then won it for Dickinson 12:56 into the first overtime period, giving the Red Devils their first lead of the game.

Peijnenburg made five saves and Gresick added a defensive save in the loss. Katy Schlechtweg made 15 saves to earn the win for Dickinson. Hopkins outshot Dickinson 29-14 and had a 15-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 20 as the Blue Jays host Bryn Mawr. Game time is set for 12:00 pm at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays will honor their five seniors prior to the game.
