BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team won two of three doubles and then took four of six singles to beat visiting Amherst, 6-3, in a marathon match Saturday afternoon that spanned nearly five hours. The win is the Blue Jays' first ever over the Lord Jeffs in five meetings between the two.

Sophomores Tanner Brown and Erik Lim put Hopkins on top with an 8-6 win at first doubles over Mark Kahan and Aaron Revzin. Freshman Nicholas Garcia and sophomore Sam Weissler pushed the lead to two as the pair beat Jon Cypers and Andrew Scheiner, 8-5, at third. The Jeffs cut the deficit in half heading into singles play as Ben Fife and Andrew Yaraghi rallied for a 9-7 win in the tiebreaker to beat seniors Andy Hersh and Jeff Kamei, 9-8, at second.

Brown gave Hopkins a 3-1 lead as he topped Fife, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) at second singles. But Kahan answered with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at third over sophomore Ben Hwang to make it a 3-2 match. Lim pushed the Blue Jays one point closer to victory with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 win over Revzin at fourth. Sophomore Jensen Reiter then clinched the match at fifth as he won 6-4, 7-5 over Cypers. Junior Jeremy Schwartzfollowed with a come-from-behind 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2 win at sixth over Scheiner. Yaraghi closed out the match as he rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) win over Hersh at first in a battle of ITA Regional champions.

Hersh, Brown and Lim will now travel to Mobile, AL for the 2012 ITA National Small College Championship. Hersh will be competing in the singles championship while Brown and Lim will compete in doubles. The championship will begin on October 11 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.
