GETTYSBURG, PA - The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team posted its sixth straight shutout on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-0 win at Gettysburg. The Blue Jays improve to 11-5 overall and 8-0 in the Centennial Conference as the Jays stay atop the standings with two matches to go. The Bullets fall to 8-8 on the season and 4-5 in conference.
Freshmen Shannon Herndon and Kaitlin Pfisterer beat Kylle O'Sullivan and Isabelle Rodriguez, 8-3, at first doubles. Junior Andrea Berlinghof and freshman Macie Wilkins were 8-6 winners over Laura Habecker and Meghan Fornshell at second. Sophomore Lauren Fields and freshman Kaitlyn Coleman won by an identical score at third, beating Meg Kelly and Kelsey Boyce.
Herndon then won at first singles over Rodriguez without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0. Berlinghof needed just 14 games to win at third, besting Kelly by a 6-1, 6-1 score to clinch the win. At fifth, Wilkins won 6-1, 6-2 over Charrisha Watkins. Coleman also won in straight sets, beating Habecker 6-2, 6-4 at fourth. Pfisterer and Fields needed third-set super tie-breakers to earn wins at second and sixth, respectively. Pfisterer won her first set 6-2, but lost the second 6-4. She then prevailed 10-1 in the super-breaker. Fields took her first set 6-3 before falling 6-4 in the second. She also prevailed in a super-breaker, 10-6.
Hopkins returns on Saturday as Swarthmore visits Baltimore. The Centennial Conference match is set for a 3:00 pm start.
