Hopkins Advances to CC Title Match with 5-0 Win

BALTIMORE, MD - The top-seeded Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat fourth-seeded Haverford, 5-0, in the Centennial Conference semifinals Saturday. The Blue Jays (15-5) will seek their sixth straight Centennial Conference title on Sunday, while the Fords end their season at 12-9. The match was played to decision per conference rules.

Senior Courtney Boger and freshman Kaitlin Pfisterer quickly put Hopkins on top with an 8-0 win at third doubles over Celia Tong and Rachal Torg. Sophomore Hailey Hogan and junior Nandita Krishnan then beat Alex Ferrara and Caitlin Gallagher, 8-1, at first. Sophomore Abby Clark and freshman Shannon Herndon closed out doubles play as they beat Kate Donches and Abbey Flynn, 8-2, at second.

Herndon pushed Hopkins lead in the match to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at third singles over Donches. The win was Herndon's team-best 14th of the season as she is now 14-4. Clark then clinched the win as she needed the minimum 12 games to defeat Tong, 6-0, 6-0 at fourth.

Hopkins will face third-seeded Swarthmore on Sunday for the Centennial Conference Championship. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am at the JHU Tennis Courts. The Blue Jays are 3-1 all-time against the Garnet in the conference tournament with the two last meeting in the 2010 finals. Hopkins won that match by a 5-0 score.
