LANDOVER, MD - Junior Max Robinson and sophomore Austin Stecklair posted strong distance performances Saturday as the Johns Hopkins men's track & field team competed in the Terrapin Invitational.
Typically a long distance runner, Robinson tried his hand at the mile run and nearly came away with the Hopkins record. Robinson finished third overall in 4:19.58, just four tenths off of the record (4:19.20) held by Brandon Hahn. Julian Saliani finished second on the team, clocking 4:28.03.
Paul Vozzo and Kevin Keenahan had strong performances in the pole vault, placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Vozzo vaulted 13'9.25", and narrowly missed clearing 14'3.25". Meanwhile, Keenahan, who missed last year due to shoulder surgery, earned a personal record with a vault of 13'3.50."
Elsewhere, Stecklair notched a personal record in the 3,000 meter run (8:51.23) to place fifth overall, while teammates James Frick (8:52.00) and Josh Budman (8:59.26) were just behind in sixth and seventh.
Freshman Colin O'Connor placed third overall in the 300 meter dash with an impressive time of 36.32, as Rob Martin turned in a personal record in the 200 meter dash (22.78).
Hopkins is scheduled to return to the track next weekend at the Penn State National Open in State College, PA. Additionally, a portion of the team will compete at the Thompson Invitational in Newark, DE.
