Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Host Johns Hopkins and visiting Franklin & Marshall traded goals less than three minutes apart late in the second half and both had dangerous chances throughout the second half and overtime, but neither team could net the golden goal as the Blue Jays and Diplomats battled to a 1-1 draw at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays run their unbeaten streak to four games and now stand at 5-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Centennial, while the Diplomats are now 9-2-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.

A defensive first half that saw only five combined shots and one legitimate scoring chance for both teams turned into a different game after intermission as the teams combined for 18 shots and the only two goals of the game.

The Blue Jays struck first in the 81st minute when freshman David Adejunmobi played a long ball to classmate Samy Ramadane on the right flank. Ramadane controlled the ball and worked his way through two defenders to the middle of the field, where he picked the far post past a diving T.J. White to give JHU a 1-0 lead.

The echo of the celebration was still in the air less than three minutes later when the Diplomats got the equalizer off a free kick. Senior Ryan O'Connell played the ball into the box from 25 yards out and to the right of Blue Jay goalie Matt Paris, but the ball never reached Paris off a scramble before landing at the feet of Max Watson. Watson poked it at Paris from in tight and Paris made the initial save, but the rebound kicked right back to Watson who slipped it through traffic into the net to knot the game at 1-1.

Adejunmobi had the best chance down the stretch as he got free in the middle of the field 20 yards from the goal in the 105th minute and rifled a shot towards the corner, but White made a nice diving save to keep the game even and neither team seriously threatened in the final four minutes.

White posted five saves in goal for the Diplomats, while Paris had two stops for Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays held slight advantages in shots (12-11) and corner kicks (7-6).

A one-goal affair between Johns Hopkins and F&M is nothing new. This was the fourth time the teams have played to overtime in the last six meetings. In those six matchups there have now been two ties and four one-goal games.
