BRYN MAWR, PA - Senior Maddie Fryer and junior Alexa Lantiere combined to score four goals while assisting on two more to lead Johns Hopkins to a 6-1 win at host Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays snap a five-game losing streak as they improve to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in the conference while the Owls fall to 3-10 and 0-8 in the Centennial.

Sophomore Leslie MacManus put the Blue Jays on the board early, scoring just 2:49 into the contest. Lantiere took the initial shot, but Faith Westdorp made the save. MacManus bounced on the rebound and put it home for her second of the season. Fryer added to Hopkins' lead at 8:14 to give the Jays all the cushion they would need. Lantiere slipped a pass through the circle to Fryer, who buried it for seventh of the season.

Hopkins extended its lead to three at 15:44 when Lantiere deflected a shot by sophomore Kiana Duncan. The goal was her team-leading 10th of the season as Hopkins led 3-0 at the half. It didn't take long for Hopkins to add to its lead in the second half as Lantiere scored at 39:31 to stake the Jays to a four-goal lead. Off a MacManus corner, Fryer passed to Lantiere in the middle and she was able to slip a shot past Westdorp.

Bryn Mawr got on the board and ended sophomore Zoey Atabek's bid for her third shutout of the season at 40:42. The Owls got back-to-back shots from Kayla Bixler and Ashley Arbuckle with Atabek making the save each time. Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, the third time was the charm as Arbuckle was able to score off her own rebound to cut the deficit to 4-1. Arbuckle would go on to make a pair of defensive saves in the ensuing 10 minutes to keep her team just three goals down.

Hopkins was awarded a penalty stroke and sophomore Elena Gresick converted at 54:33 to make it a 5-1 game. Fryer closed out the scoring at 61:34 with her second of the day. Following another MacManus corner, Fryer was able to score off a loose-ball scramble in front of the cage.

Atabek finished with eight saves to earn the win, while Westdorp made nine saves for the Owls. Hopkins outshot Bryn Mawr, 22-11, and had 15 corners to the Owls' five. Lantiere's two goals now give her 21 for her career as she moves into a tie for 14th place in school history. She is also now tied for 24th with 46 career points.

Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, October 22 as the Blue Jays host the McDaniel Green Terror. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at Homewood Field. The game is the Blue Jays' annual "Play 4 the Cure" game as the Blue Jays look to raise funds for the fight the against breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and make a donation for fight against breast cancer.
