LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins senior nose guard Joe DiTrolio (Newtown Square, PA/Malvern Prep) has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Saturday's 24-18 victory over Ursinus. This is the first time in DiTrolio's career that he has been honored as the CC Defensive Player of the Week.
DiTrolio tied his career high with eight tackles, including 1.5 for losses and half a sack, against the Beaers. It was the second time in three weeks that DiTrolio has posted eight tackles in a game and his efforts in the middle of the Blue Jays' defensive line helped limit Ursinus to just 43 yards rushing on 25 attempts.
With his effort against Ursinus, DiTrolio now ranks fourth on the team in tackles (31) and fifth in tackles for losses (4.5) and sacks (2.5). He now has career totals of 94 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
Johns Hopkins (8-0, 7-0 Centennial) is ranked eighth in the nation in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Poll and 12th in the D3football.com Poll. The Blue Jays clinched at least a share of their fifth straight Centennial Conference title with the win against Ursinus and can secure the outright title and the league's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Playoffs with a win in either of its final two regular season games against Franklin & Marshall (Nov. 9) and McDaniel (Nov. 16).
