ALLENTOWN, PA - Three Blue Jays finished in double figures including senior Fatu Conteh, who had a team high 11 points, as Hopkins held on to beat Muhlenberg 65-58 Saturday afternoon. JHU held a 55-38 advantage on the glass, with junior Haley Bush finishing with a game-high 14 rebounds. Hopkins improves to 7-2 on the season and remains unbeaten in the Centennial Conference (6-0). Muhlenberg falls to 4-3 on the year and 2-2 in the CC.
The game hung in the balance at the 8:28 mark in the second half, as Muhlenberg junior Laura Gregory made a layup to tie it up 53-53. Sophomore Katie Clark quickly gave Hopkins the lead on the other end, converting a layup to put the Blue Jays up by to. Hopkins would not trail for the rest of the game, as the Blue Jays hit their final five free throws in the closing minutes to seal the win.
The Blue Jays raced out to an early lead in the first half, leading by as many as 12 after a three-pointer from Alyssa Fleming made it 19-7. The Mules answered, hitting six threes of their own in the first half to take a 26-25 lead with 6:21 to play. Trailing 37-35 in the half's closing minute, junior Jessica Brown hit a layup with 22 seconds remaining to tie things up bfore the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Hopkins women's basketball will now enter an extended hiatus as winter break approaches in the coming weeks. The Blue Jays will return to action on January 2 when the team welcomes Eastern Mennonite to Goldfarb Gym.
