The Johns Hopkins women's track team completed its final tune-up for the Centennial Conference Championships with a successful night at Haverford's Keogh Invitational Friday.
Junior Maggie Shelton convincingly won the 800-meter run with a season best time of 2:17.42. In the 3000-meters, freshman Sophia Meehan also clobbered her competitors, finishing in 10:28.55.
Katherine Hamlet took first place in the high jump, surpassing teammate Nikki Kerns' freshman record with a mark of 1.57m (5' 1 ¾"). Kerns finished third in the event. Imoni McCorvey continued her fine season in the triple jump as the freshman leaped to victory in 10.99 (36' ¾").
Two more Hopkins wins were supplied by Emily Kashka's pole vault mark of 3.05 meters (10') and Emily Swenson, whose shot put flew 12.57m (41'3").
Other notable high placings were: Liz Provost's second in the mile run; Swenson and Kerns placing third and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles; Alex Popkin, Juliana Wittmann and Emily Warner taking third, fourth and fifth in the 400-meter dash.
Meanwhile, Chloe Ryan and Catherine Keim finished third and fourth in the 200-meter dash and Remington Ricciuti and Alana Merkow notched second placings in the long jump and shot put.
A handful of athletes were rested in order to prepare for the conference championships next weekend as the Hopkins women seek to defend their indoor conference title.
