CARLISLE, PA - The top-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team opened its Centennial Conference slate with a 6-3 win at Dickinson Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 5-2 on the season and run their regular season conference win streak to 61. The Red Devils fall to 2-7 and 1-1 in the Centennial.
Hopkins took two of three doubles points to take the early 2-1 lead. Junior Lauren Fields and sophomore Kaitlin Pfisterer won 8-3 at second over Madeline Altholtz and Dominique Hedderich. While at third, senior Ariel Several and freshman Kara McDonough won by an identical score over Sarah Cantor and Sydney Diamond. Alysia Rodgers and Shannon Lavery earned a point for the Red Devils with an 8-4 defeat of senior Andrea Berlinghof and freshman Olivia Kasten at first.
In singles play, Dickinson took points at first and second, but Hopkins swept the third through sixth positions to seal the win. Rodgers beat Berlinghof, 6-4, 6-2 at first and Lavery was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at second over Pfisterer. Several earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Diamond at third and Fields beat Altholtz, 6-3, 6-4, at fourth. Kasten rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Cantor at sixth. And freshman Staley Smith beat Kendell Beals, 6-4, 6-0 at sixth.
Hopkins is back in action on Saturday, March 30 as the Blue Jays host the Owls of Bryn Mawr. The Centennial Conference match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
