BALTIMORE, MD - The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis blanked visiting Bryn Mawr, 9-0, in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial, while the Owls fall to 1-8 and 0-3.
Hopkins lost just one game in doubles play as the Blue Jays jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the match. Senior Andrea Berlinghof and freshman Olivia Kasten won all eight games to defeat Rachel Genovese and Kendall Baller, 8-0, at second. Junior Lauren Fields and freshman Kara McDonough turned the same trick at third as the pair beat Amelia Arnold and Priyamvada Golcha, 8-0. Junior Abby Clark and sophomore Stephanie Rettig won 8-1 at first over Vivien Chen and Jenny Vogel.
In singles play, the Blue Jays lost just seven games as they swept all six matches. Sophomore Shannon Libaw was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at first over Chen. Berlinghof won 6-0, 6-2 at second over Vogel. At third, senior Ariel Several won 6-1, 6-2 over Melina Koukoutchos. Field won all 12 games as she beat Baller, 6-0, 6-0 at fourth. Kasten clinched the win for the Blue Jays as she beat Tirsa Delate 6-0, 6-1 at fifth. And at sixth, McDonough beat Arnold, 6-1, 6-0.
Hopkins is back in action on Sunday, March 31 as the Blue Jays host seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon in a rematch of the 2013 ITA National Team Indoor Championship match. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
