BALTIMORE, MD -- Katherine Hamlet broke a 28-year-old program high jump record and Hannah Oneda set the program freshman record in the 1500m to lead the Johns Hopkins women's track & field team to a first place finish at the Hopkins-Loyola Invitational Saturday.
The Blue Jays won six events to handily defeat the competition with 216 points, finishing ahead of Salisbury (112.50) and Howard Community College (111).
After steadily climbing by two-inch increments throughout the day, Hamlet leapt over the bar at 1.60m (5'3") on her second attempt to break the long-standing Hopkins outdoor high jump record. Cindy Harper (1985) and Kim Fahrenbrook (1991) had previously shared the record (1.58m). The freshman Hamlet tied for second in the event.
Hopkins was impressive in the 800-meter run, as Maggie Shelton, Ingrid Johnson and Alexandra Popkin each posted personal records to sweep the top-three positions in the field.
