BALTIMORE, MD - The sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team defeated visiting Muhlenberg, 9-0, on Saturday morning in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 14-2 overall and 8-0 in the conference, while the Mules fall to 5-7 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Hopkins picked up two quick doubles points before closing at the third to take a 3-0 lead into singles. Senior Andrea Berlinghof and freshman Olivia Kasten did not lose a game in an 8-0 win at second over Jennifer Goldberg and Sharen Resnikoff. Sophomores Shannon Herndon and Kaitlin Pfisterer played just nine games in an 8-1 win over Nina Sanders and Emily Szulman at first. Junior Lauren Fields and senior Ariel Several then defeated Amanda von Taube and Gabriela Contino, 8-6, at third.
In singles play, sophomore Shannon Libaw needed only 12 games to earn a 6-0, 6-0 win over Szulman at second. Pfisterer nearly matched her with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Goldberg at third. Berlinghof followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win at first over Sanders. Several defeated Resnikoff at fourth by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Kasten beat von Taube 6-0, 6-3 at fifth and freshman Staley Smith won 6-2, 6-0 over Contino at sixth.
Hopkins returns to action on Thursday, April 25 as the Blue Jays host the Gettysburg Bullets. The Centennial Conference match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
