BALTIMORE, MD - The sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team shut out visiting Gettysburg, 9-0, in Centennial Conference action Thursday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 15-2 overall and 9-0 in the conference while the Bullets fall to 8-7 overall and 3-6 in the conference. In the win, junior Abby Clark earned her 75th overall career win.
Junior Hailey Hogan and sophomore Shannon Herndon opened the match with an 8-0 win at first doubles over Meghan Fornshell and Maggie McLaughlin. Clark and sophomore Stephanie Rettig then beat Meg Kelly and Kelly Webster by the same score at second. Sophomore Elaine Baik and senior Andrea Berlinghof closed out doubles with an 8-2 defeat of Julia Burke and Holly Johnson at third.
Freshman Olivia Kasten was the first one off the court for singles as she beat Johnson, 6-0, 6-0 at fifth. Junior Lauren Fields then clinched the win for the Blue Jays with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth over Fornshell. Freshman Kara McDonough followed with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Webster at sixth. At first, Clark beat Kelly 6-0, 6-1 to earn her 75th win. Sophomore Kaitlin Pfisterer won at third, beating McLaughlin 6-0, 6-2. Berlinghof wrapped up the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at second over Laura Habecker.
Hopkins is back in action and wraps up the regular season on Saturday, April 27 as the Blue Jays visit the Swarthmore Garnet. The match will decide the top seed and host of the Centennial Conference Tournament. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
