BALTIMORE, MD - The seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team defeated visiting Haverford, 5-0, in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 17-2 overall and win their 13th straight match as they advance to the conference championship for the seventh straight year. The Fords end their season at 12-7.
Sophomore Elaine Baik and junior Abby Clark put Hopkins on top early with an 8-0 win at third doubles over Kristen Andersen and Abigail Healy. Sophomores Shannon Herndon and Stephanie Rettig then defeated Robyn Himelstein and Celia Tong, 8-1, at second. Junior Hailey Hogan and sophomore Sydney Lehman wrapped up doubles play with an 8-3 defeat of Caitlin Gallagher and Alex Ferrara at first.
Lehman quickly pushed Hopkins lead to four in the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles over Tong. Hogan then clinched the win and the berth in the title match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ferrara at second.
Hopkins will take on second-seeded Swarthmore in the title match for the second straight year and fifth time since 2007. The match is slated to start at 3:00 pm at the JHU Tennis Courts.
