SALISBURY, MD - Host Salisbury parlayed a goal in the 23rd minute into a 1-0 win over Johns Hopkins Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Blue Jays slip to 2-5-1 while the Sea Gulls, ranked 24th in the latest D3soccer.com poll improve to 7-2-0.
Larry Cornish played the ball to Jake Perry running up the right touchline. Perry dribbled into the box and scored from 10 yards out on a low liner just inside the post. It was a fairly evenly played gamed with Salisbury finishing with a 14-11 advantage in shots while corners were even at five apiece. The Sea Gulls were able to make their one goal stand.
Freshman Matt Paris made four saves in the loss, while his counterpart Drew Staedeli made two to earn the shutout.
Hopkins returns to action and Centennial Conference play on Saturday as the Blue Jays travel to Carlisle, PA to take on the Dickinson Red Devils. Game time is set for 4:30 pm.
