BALTIMORE, MD – The second weekly American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Poll of the 2013 season was announced today and the undefeated Johns Hopkins football team is ranked 14th in the poll. The Blue Jays, who were ranked 13th last week, defeated visiting Muhlenberg, 45-13, on Saturday at Homewood Field to improve to 4-0 on the year and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference.

In addition to holding the #14 spot in the AFCA Poll, the Blue Jays also check in at #16 in this week’s D3football.com Poll. This is the third consecutive week the Blue Jays have been ranked 16th by D3football.com.

The AFCA Poll, which the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications office uses to reflect JHU’s official national ranking, is topped by defending national champion Mount Union, which earned 38 first-place votes and totaled 1,046 points to earn the top spot. Mary Hardin-Baylor grabbed the other four first-place votes and 1,004 points to rank second, while Linfield (970 points), North Central (912) and Hobart (794) round out the top five.

Johns Hopkins is ranked in the top 20 by the AFCA for the 20th consecutive week and is in the top 25 for the 22nd consecutive week.

Johns Hopkins will put its four-game season-opening winning streak on the line this Saturday when the Blue Jays travel to Juniata (3-1, 2-1 Centennial). The Eagles are off to their best start since 2002 and were listed among the teams receiving votes in last week’s AFCA Poll before dropping their first game of the season at Franklin & Marshall.
