Oct. 6, 2014 BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins football team improved to 5-0 with a 56-14 win over Juniata on Saturday and moved up one spot to ninth in this week’s AFCA Division III Poll and the D3football.com Poll. Johns Hopkins earned 693 points to earn its number nine ranking in the AFCA Poll, while it grabbed 408 points to grab the ninth spot in the D3football.com Poll.
The top 10 spots in both polls are identical as defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater sits in the top spot and is followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mount Union, Wesley and Linfield in the top five of both polls. John Carroll, Wartburg and Hobart sit at sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in each poll with Johns Hopkins pulling in at number nine in both. Wabash rounds out the top 10 in the AFCA and D3football.com rankings this week.
Johns Hopkins (5-0, 4-0 Centennial Conference) is ranked in the top 20 by the AFCA for the 32nd consecutive week. This is the second-highest AFCA ranking in school history as JHU finished the 2009 season and spent three weeks in 2013 ranked eighth. In addition, the number nine ranking from D3football.com is the highest the Blue Jays have ever been ranked in that poll.
After opening with five consecutive victories the Blue Jays will enjoy their bye this week before returning to action Friday, October 17 at Dickinson.
