Margraff Named AFCA Regional Coach of the Year

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins football coach Jim Margraff, who recently completed his 25th season at Homewood, has been named the NCAA Division III Region 2 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) it was announced today. This is the second time Margraff has earned the award as was also selected in 2011.

The AFCA?recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners in each of the Association's five divisions:?Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III and NAIA.

The 2014 Regional Coach of the Year winners will be recognized at the AFCA?Coach of the Year Dinner at the 2015 AFCA?Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. The dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13.

Margraff guided Johns Hopkins to an 11-1 record, the Centennial Conference title and the second round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs this season. The 11 wins are a Johns Hopkins single-season record, while the Centennial Conference title is the sixth straight and 10th overall for the Blue Jays in the last 13 years. The Blue Jays also made their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Playoffs and their sixth appearance in the last 10 years. Johns Hopkins spent the entire season ranked in the AFCA top 20 and has been ranked in the top 25 every week since the start of the 2011 season.

Long the all-time winningest coach in Johns Hopkins history, Margraff also became the winningest college football coach in Maryland state history this season when he notched his 175th career win with a 42-14 victory at Ursinus. Margraff broke the previous state record of 174 wins, which had been held by former Morgan State head coach Eddie Hurt (1929-59). Margraff's career record now stands at 178-83-3 (.680).
