GETTYSBURG, PA - Third-ranked Johns Hopkins shutout host Gettysburg, 9-0, in Centennial Conference action Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays post their eighth shutout in conference play as they improve to 18-1 overall and 9-0 in the CC. Hopkins also clinches the top seed in next week's CC Tournament with one match to play. The Bullets meanwhile, fall to 9-8 overall and 3-6 in the CC.
The Blue Jays lost just five games in doubles as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Olivia Kasten and freshman Jody Law beat Anastasia Mogilevski and Sotherd Steer, 8-1, at first. Freshman Anna Kankanala and junior Macie Wilkins were 8-2 winners at second over Laura Gradiska and Lindsay Morris. Freshman Savannah de Montesquiou and sophomore Kara McDonough won by the same score at third over Maggie McLaughlin and Holly Johnson.
Law lost just one game in beating Mogilevski at first to clinch the win for the Blue Jays. At second, Kankanala beat Gradiska 6-2, 6-3. Wilkins won in the minimum 12 games as she beat Morris at third. de Montesquiou turned the same trick at fifth in her win over Gillian Minnerly. Kasten won 6-2, 6-0 at fourth over McLaughlin. McDonough beat Steer at sixth 6-3, 6-1.
Hopkins closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 26 as they host the Swarthmore Garnet. The CC match is slated for an 11:00 am start.
