Sept. 5, 2014 Sophomore Will Bellamy joined the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications staff as a student assistant not long after arriving at Homewood in August 2013. An experienced writer, he will bolster the efforts of the office with a preview of each weekend's events (please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive in-depth preview of every game or event. Rather, it provides a quick overview for fans with key links and things to look for. Key games, especially those against nationally-ranked teams or those with playoff implications, will lead the column each week). Football
For the third straight year, the Johns Hopkins football team will kick off the season with a game against Randolph Macon.
The Blue Jays have plenty of reasons to feel confident about the match-up, which will take place on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field. They have beaten the Yellow Jackets by at least 20 points in each of the teams' last two encounters and field a number of returning players who were critical to JHU's success in 2013.
However, Hopkins cannot afford to let its guard down against RMC, especially when the Jays on the defensive side of the ball. The Yellow Jackets boasted a powerful offense last year and will likely do so again this year. JHU will look to senior defensive linemen Michael Longo, Matthew Connery and Michael Rocca to disrupt the RMC offense early and prevent it from getting into a rhythm.
On offense, the Blue Jays can rely on running backs Stuart Walters and Brandon Cherry, who combined for over 1,600 yards last season, to move the chains. Game time is noon ET.

In what will be its first action of the year, Hopkins will face off against Iona, No. 13 Princeton and No. 18 Brown on Saturday and against No. 19 Harvard and MIT on Sunday. The matches should give the team a reading on where it stands at this point and what it will need to work on going forward. The Blue Jays will look to returning All-Americans, Johnny Beal, Matt Fraser and goalie Erik Henrikson along with last year's leading scorer, Wes Hopkins, to get the team going this weekend.
