Jan. 2, 2015 DANBURY, CT - The Johns Hopkins football team placed three players on the 2014 All-ECAC South Football Team it was recently announced. Junior guard Colin Egan earned first team honors, while junior tackle Rowan Cade and senior defensive lineman Michael Longo were named to the second team. This is the sixth consecutive season that Johns Hopkins has placed at least three players on the All-ECAC Team and the fourth straight year Johns Hopkins has had two or more offensive linemen selected.
Egan and Cade led a Johns Hopkins offensive line that returned just one starter this season (Egan). With Egan and Cade leading the way, the Johns Hopkins offense averaged 37.2 points and 434.4 yards per game. The Blue Jays scored at least 21 points in all 12 of their games, averaged 6.0 yards per play and totaled more than 25 touchdowns rushing (34) and passing (27) for just the second time in school history. In addition, the Johns Hopkins offensive line allowed just seven sacks in 12 games.
Egan adds All-ECAC honors to an impressive list of accomplishments as he previously was named a First Team D3football.com All-American, First Team D3football.com All-South and First Team All-Centennial Conference. In addition, he earned First Team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District honors.
Cade has also built an impressive resume of post-season honors as he previously grabbed Second Team D3football.com All-South, First Team All-Centennial Conference and First Team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District.
Longo adds All-ECAC honors to an impressive 2014 resume that includes selections as a First Team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America, the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Centennial Conference and third team D3football.com All-South. He posted 54 tackles and led the team in tackles for losses (14.5) and sacks (11.0) with two pass breakups and one fumble recovery.
Johns Hopkins posted an 11-1 record, won a sixth straight Centennial Conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs for the second time in three years. The Blue Jays finished the season ranked 10th in the final AFCA and D3football.com polls.
