Hopkins Tops NCAA South Region Football Rankings

Nov. 11, 2015

BALTIMORE, MD -- The Johns Hopkins football team is ranked number one in the second official NCAA South Region Poll of the 2015 season. This is second of two regional rankings announced during the regular season by the NCAA and this marks the first time that Johns Hopkins has ever been ranked number one in an NCAA Regional Football Poll.

The regional rankings are compiled by the official Regional Advisory Committee and are an accurate representation of where teams stand in the eyes of the NCAA Selection Committee that will put together the bracket for the upcoming NCAA Division III Football Playoffs. Johns Hopkins (9-0, 8-0 CC) is already assured of a spot in the upcoming NCAA Playoffs as the Blue Jays locked up the Centennial Conference's automatic bid with a 45-24 win over Franklin & Marshall last Saturday.

Johns Hopkins is followed by Hardin-Simmons, Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX), Thomas More (KY) and Washington & Lee (VA) in the top five of the South Region rankings. The only other school from the Centennial Conference in the poll is Moravian, which checks in at number seven.

The NCAA Playoffs will begin on Saturday, November 21 with 16 first-round games on campus sites. The bracket for the tournament will be set up in four, eight-team regions (East, South, North, West) and announced on Sunday, November 15 at 6 pm on ncaa.com.

In addition to ranking first in the south region, Johns Hopkins is also ranked sixth in the AFCA Poll and eighth in the D3football.com Poll this week.

Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 14 when the Blue Jays travel to McDaniel for the final regular season game of the year. Kickoff at Gill Stadium is set for noon.
