2015 AFCA Division III All-America Team
WACO, TX – Johns Hopkins senior guard Colin Egan (Chadds Ford, PA/Bishop Shanahan) added another honor to his already impressive resume today as he was named to the 2015 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III All-America Team. At least one Blue Jay offensive lineman has earned All-America honors from either the AFCA or D3football.com in five of the last six years.
Egan's selection marks the fourth time since 2006 that Johns Hopkins has placed a player on the AFCA All-America Team as he joins Ben Scott (Punter – 2006) and Armand Jenifer (Offensive Line (Tackle) – 2012 & 2013) on this prestigious list. Prior to Scott's selection in 2006, College Football Hall of Fame inductee Bill Stromberg (Wide Receiver – 1980 & 1981) was the only Johns Hopkins player ever named to the AFCA All-America Team.
The AFCA All-America Team is selected by a panel of coaches from each of the AFCA's eight districts. Only a first team is selected and only one player from each school can be selected.
Egan adds the AFCA All-America Team nod to his previous First Team D3football.com All-South Region, First Team All-Centennial Conference and First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors from this season. Egan started all 12 games at guard in 2015 and helped lead the way for an offense that averaged school records of 45.7 points and 505.8 yards per game. The Blue Jays scored a school-record 75 touchdowns in 2015.
The All-America selection is also the second of Egan's career as he grabbed First Team D3football.com honors last season, when he also earned First Team D3football.com All-South and First Team All-Centennial honors. He is one of just two players in school history to twice earn first team all-region honors.
Johns Hopkins posted an 11-1 record this season, won a seventh consecutive Centennial Conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs for the third time in four years.
