BALTIMORE, MD -- The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team shutout visiting Haverford, 5-0, in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon. The top-seeded Blue Jays improve to 16-4 on the season and advance to the CC title match for the ninth straight year. The fourth-seeded Fords end their season at 15-5.
Hopkins jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the match before a battle ensued at first doubles. Sophomore Anna Kankanala and senior Macie Wilkins did not drop a game in beating Kristen Andersen and Abby Payson at third doubles. Freshman Caroline Greydak and junior Olivia Kasten then beat Greta Koch and Jessica Liu, 8-3, at second. All eyes turned to court one where Haverford's Caitlin Gallagher and Robyn Himelstein were looking to cut the deficit in half. Freshman Megumi Chen and sophomore Jody Law had other ideas as they rallied from a 6-1 deficit to beat Gallagher and Himelstein 9-8 (2).
Gredyak picked up her second win of the day as she beat Liu 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead. Junior Sydney Lehman then clinched the win and a berth in the CC title match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at second over Koch.
Hopkins will face second-seeded Washington College in the finals on Sunday. The two are meeting in the finals for the third time and first since 2011. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start at the JHU Tennis Courts. Fans can follow the action .
