BALTIMORE, MD - The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team defeated visiting Washington College, 5-0, in the championship match of the 2015 Centennial Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon. The top-seeded Blue Jays win their ninth straight CC title as they improve to 17-4 on the season. The Shorewomen end their season with a 15-3 mark.
The Blue Jays took a quick 1-0 lead in the match when freshman Megumi Chen and sophomore Jody Law won 8-1 at second doubles over Krista Filiopoulos and Julie Lazer. Sophomore Amanda Austi and freshman Caroline Greydak then beat Blair Kang and Rachel Martinez, 8-2, at third. Senior Shannon Herndon and junior Sydney Lehman followed with an 8-6 win at first over Marielle McIntyre and April Weaver to complete the doubles sweep.
Sophomore Anna Kankanala quickly pushed the Blue Jays' lead in the match to four as she dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win at sixth over Kang. Law then clinched the win and the title at third as she beat Lazer by the same score. The win was her third of the weekend, earning her tournament MVP honors.
Hopkins earns its ninth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and will learn its fate on Monday. The tournament bracket is scheduled for release at 12:00 pm ET here.
