Sept. 22, 2015 BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins senior running back Brandon Cherry (Parkville, MD/Boys' Latin) has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his effort in Johns Hopkins' 45-23 victory at Moravian on Saturday (September 19). This is the first time in his career that he has been named to the team.
Cherry touched the ball just 12 times against the Greyhounds, but four of those 12 touches ended with Cherry in the end zone. He scored on a 73-yard touchdown run on Johns Hopkins' third play of the game and later added scoring runs of 14 and six yards. He capped his four-touchdown first half with a 34-yard touchdown reception that gave the Blue Jays a 35-0 halftime lead.
For the game, Cherry rushed nine times for 118 yards and the three scores and had three receptions for 47 yards and his other touchdown; the four touchdowns tied the Johns Hopkins single-game record. Cherry is the ninth player in school history to score four touchdowns in a game with the nine players combining to do it 11 times.
In three games this season, Cherry has rushed 33 times for 208 yards and four touchdowns and has four receptions for 52 yards and one score. He ranks third on the team in all-purpose yards per game (86.7) and will enter this week's game just three yards shy of 2,000 for his career.
Eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins (3-0, 2-0 Centennial) welcomes Muhlenberg (2-1, 1-1 CC) to Homewood Field on Saturday, September 26 for a crucial Centennial Conference game between perennial powers. Either the Blue Jays or Mules have earned at least a share of all but one Centennial title since 2001. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
