Sept. 8, 2015 D3football.com Team of the Week (for games played Sept. 3-5, 2015)
BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins junior quarterback Jonathan Germano (Hawthorne, NJ/Bergen Catholic) has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his effort in Johns Hopkins' 52-17 season-opening win at Randolph-Macon. Germano was previously named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Yellow Jackets.
Germano was 18-of-23 for 320 yards with five touchdown passes while also rushing for 66 yards and another score in his first career start. The 320 yards were nearly five times his career total entering the game, while the five touchdown passes were one shy of the Johns Hopkins record for most in a season opener. His five scoring passes covered eight, 50, 32, seven and 18 yards and his touchdown run was a 12-yarder.
Germano became the eighth straight Johns Hopkins quarterback to win the first start of his career and his 386 yards of total offense against the Yellow Jackets is tied for the eighth-highest single-game total in school history. In addition, his 320 passing yards are the third-highest total by a Johns Hopkins quarterback in a season-opener.
Germano directed a Johns Hopkins offense that produced 621 yards of total offense and the 52 points. The 621-yard showing is the fifth-highest total in school history, while the Blue Jays topped 275 yards rushing (294) and 300 yards passing (327) in the same game for just the second time in school history. In addition, the 52 points are the most for Johns Hopkins in a season opener since 1915.
Johns Hopkins (1-0) will open Centennial Conference action this week as the Blue Jays welcome Susquehanna (1-0) to Homewood Field on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is set for 1 pm.
