• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team fell in a shootout to eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament Saturday. After playing through a scoreless 110 minutes, the Diplomats prevailed 4-3 in the shootout.
How it Happened
• Hopkins controlled much of the play and peppered the Franklin & Marshall defense. The Blue Jays fired off 21 shots, getting an impressive 15 on frame.
• On the other end of the field, junior Bryan See and the Blue Jay defense held the Dips, who were averaging over two goals per game, to just 13 shots and no goals.
• Befitting the double overtime scoreless draw, the teams needed an extra round in the shootout to decide who advanced. The teams were even after the first round, as junior co-captain Mike Swiercz made his attempt for the Jays. In the second round, both shooters were stopped by the goalies, making it 1-1 heading into the third. The Diplomats got another save from Dave Reingold and went ahead 2-1. Both teams made their shots in round four and the Dips remained ahead, 3-2. In the fifth, senior co-captain Victor Osio converted his shot and then See stopped Stephen Sherbahn to make it 3-3 and force sudden death. Reingold got another stop and then Ugo Okolie made his to send Franklin & Marshall to the title game.
What it Means
• Johns Hopkins is now 39-24-7 all-time against Franklin & Marshall, including 3-0-1 in the Centennial Conference Tournament. The series has been tightly contested in the last 16 years as 16 times the game has been decided by one goal and five times the two have tied. This is the 11th time since 2000 that the two have played an overtime contest.
• Hopkins ends the season on a four-match unbeaten streak and was unbeaten in eight of its last nine games. The Blue Jays only loss during that stretch came at the hands of the then second-ranked Dips.
• The Blue Jays' 12 wins this season are the most since the 2010 squad won 15 games.

• Junior Bryan See finished with five saves during the run of play to post his league-leading ninth shutout of the season. His nine shutouts are tied for ninth in school single-season history.
• See finished the season with a 0.486 goals against average and an .880 save percentage, both of which lead the conference and rank as the third best in school history. He allowed just nine goals 18 games and none in the final four games.
• Johns Hopkins outshot Franklin & Marshall, 21-13, while the Dips had the edge in corners (9-4).
