Junior Jody Law won in straight sets at third singles.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision at host and 17th-ranked Mary Washington Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays (9-4) saw their eight-match win streak over the Eagles (17-4) snapped in the loss. The match was closer than the score indicates as doubles was decided by a total of six games and three of the singles matches went three sets.

The Eagles grabbed an early 3-0 lead with a sweep of the doubles. Shelby Harris and Kait Brogan took the first point of the match, 9-7, over juniors Mikey Barthelmass and Ashnaa Rao at first. Mackenzie Smith and Taylor Diffley followed with an 8-6 win at second over sophomore Megumi Chen and freshman Kimberly Zou. Caroline Mosberg and Sara Fioretti won by the same score as they beat sophomore Caroline Greydak and junior Jody Law at third.

Rao earned a point for Hopkins as she lost just two games in a victory over Brogan (6-0, 6-2) at first singles. Diffley pushed the Eagles closer to victory as she beat sophomore Sunaina Vohra 7-5, 6-2 at fourth. Law answered for the Blue Jays and made it a 4-2 match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Mosberg at third. Harris would end any hopes of a Hopkins comeback as she came from behind herself to beat Chen 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at second. Chrissy Gaul then beat Zou 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at sixth and Smith closed out the match with a 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Greydak at fifth.

Hopkins returns to the court and Centennial Conference play on Sunday. The Blue Jays host the Washington College Shorewomen in a battle of the last two unbeatens in conference play. The match is slated for a Noon start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
