Game One Summary

  • In his first start at Johns Hopkins, Jack Bunting struck out the first three Golden Eagles to quickly give the Blue Jays a chance at bat. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Conor Reynolds doubled and soon crossed home on a throwing error by Piscetelli to put Hopkins on the board. With Brian Lin on first base, Ryan Orgielewicz recorded his first hit of the day, an RBI triple to right center.
  • Hopkins added to its lead in the bottom of the second. TJ Gordon bunted to reach first base. He worked his way around the bases as he stole second and reached third on a passed ball. With two outs, Reynolds was hit by a pitch to put Blue Jays on the corners. Reynolds started toward second, and the Golden Eagles threw down the middle, allowing Gordon to steal home to increase JHU's lead to 3-0 and Reynolds to reach second during the throw to home. For the second inning in a row, a strikeout concluding the inning for Hopkins.
  • St. Joseph's (LI) took the lead with five runs between the third and fourth innings. The Golden Eagles followed a leadoff double by McAllister with a sacrifice bunt and a single up the middle for their first run. In the top of the fourth, SJC pieced together four straight singles for two runs before the first out of the inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Burnett doubled to left center to give St. Joseph's (LI) the 5-3 lead.
  • The Blue Jays tied the score in the bottom of the fourth. Gordon once again got on base, this time being hit by a pitch, and stole second. Reynolds followed him on base with a walk, and Lin singled to right field, sending Gordon home. Reynolds and Lin each advanced one more base as Bonilla committed a throwing error, giving Hopkins an unearned, game-tying fifth run.
  • After each team went three up, three down in the sixth inning, St. Joseph's posted another multi-run inning to take the lead in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Doria hit a two RBi single to center field. The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 8-5 as Britt rounded home on a sacrifice fly from Campanelli. The Blue Jays scored one of their own in the seventh. Mike Smith knocked a double down the left field line and scored on a Joe Conlon single to cut the deficit to 8-6.
  • Trailing in the bottom of the ninth, Hopkins worked a couple of walks before Smith singled through the left side to send Reynolds home. With two on and no outs, Orgielewicz and Conlon each struck out against pitcher Martino before Mike Eberle hit into a fielder's choice to end the game.
  • Bunting pitched six innings in his first start, striking out seven Golden Eagles. The sophomore transfer gave up 12 hits and five earned runs in the game. David Glass pitched the final three innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.

Game Two Summary

  • The Blue Jays found their offense to begin the game against North Central. In the top of the first inning, Hopkins tallied five hits, including doubles by Ryan Orgielewicz, Alex Darwiche and Tim Kutcher, to help JHU out to a 5-0 lead. Brian Lin kicked off the Hopkins hits with a single and Mike Smith followed him on base as he was hit by a pitch. Orgielewicz cleared the bases with his double down the leftfield line. Darwiche also sent a double to left field, driving in Orgielewicz. Joe Conlon singled to send Darwiche home before Kutcher hit the third double of the inning to send Conlon home.
  • Johns Hopkins increased its lead to 9-0 in the top of the third. With two outs and bases loaded, Lin doubled to left center to drive in all three Blue Jays. The Cardinals made a pitching change, and Smith singled to drive in Lin for the nine-run lead.
  • JHU's seemingly insurmountable lead was put in jeopardy in the bottom of the third as North Central (IL) racked up all seven of its runs. Just as Hopkins had done in the top of the third, NCC loaded the bases, setting Siebers up for a two RBI single. With the bases loaded once again, pitcher Nick Burns walked Zebrauskas to send Camody home. With bases loaded and one out, Cameron Mineo came in to pitch for Hopkins. Quade hit a two RBI single to clear the bases and cut JHU's lead to 9-5. NCC added two more runs as Fong hit an RBI single and the Quade scored on a throwing error by Darwiche. Mineo struck out Hill to end the inning with the Hopkins lead still intact, 9-7.
  • Mineo kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard as he pitched the final 6.2 innings, recording five strikeouts and scattering eight hits to earn the win. Starter Burns finished the day with one strikeout in 2.1 innings pitched, giving up five hits and six runs.
  • The Blue Jays added to their lead in the sixth and seventh innings. Smith singled to kick off the inning before Orgielewicz reached second base on an error by Quade. During the play, Smith was called out for not stepping on the bag at second, leaving Orgielewicz as the lone Blue Jay on base. Dillon Bowman knocked a single up the middle to advance Orgielewicz to third. Darwiche sent up a sacrifice fly to allow Orgielewicz to score, increasing JHU's lead to 10-7.
  • Reynolds singled up the middle to begin the seventh inning and Smith followed suit, advancing Reynolds to third base. Smith advanced to second on a passed ball, and Orgielewicz hit a two RBI single, finishing the game with two hits and four RBI. Every Blue Jay in the lineup recorded at least one hit, while Reynolds, Lin, Smith and Kutcher finished the game with three hits apiece.

What it Means
• The Blue Jays fall to 4-2 against St. Joseph's (LI), and improve to 5-4 against North Central. This marked the first meeting between Hopkins and the Cardinals since 2006, with every game taking place during a JHU spring break trip.
• Hopkins has tied its start from 2014 with a 12-3 record through the first 15 games.
• In his senior season, Conor Reynolds has several Hopkins batting records within reach. With four walks today, Reynolds ranks second in career walks with 88. The senior has also earned a spot in the top ten in hits (185, tied for sixth, triples (8, tied for ninth) and runs scored (154, sixth).
