Johns Hopkins Splits with Washington & Lee and Ursinus

• Location: Lexington, VA (Duchossois Tennis Center) • Collegeville, PA (FLB Fieldhouse) • The Short Story: The 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team split a pair of road matches on Saturday. Hopkins lost at 13th-ranked Washington & Lee and shutout host Ursinus.

How it Happened • Washington & Lee
• Washington & Lee took a 2-1 lead over Hopkins after doubles with wins at first and second. Brooke Donnely and Tessa Hill won 8-1 at first over seniors Ashnaa Rao and Mikey Barthelmass.
• Michelle Fleenor and Lauren Hassell edged freshman Sophia Strickland and sophomore Kimberly Zou, 9-7, at second. Senior Jody Law and junior Caroline Greydak picked up a point for the Blue Jays as they beat Mary Hampton McNeal and Anna Kreynin, 8-5, at third.
• In singles play, the Generals took five of the six matches to finish with the 7-2 win. Donnelly, ranked second in the Atlantic South, beat Rao 7-5, 6-2 at first singles. Hill won in three sets over Law at second 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
• Fleenor defeated Strickland 6-4, 6-1 at third. McNeal also won in three sets, beating Greydak 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at fourth.
• Zou grabbed another win for the Blue Jays as she beat Hannah Archer 6-2, 6-1 at fifth. Emily Kochard won 6-3, 6-2 at sixth over Barthelmass.

How it Happened • Ursinus
• Hopkins swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles. Senior Amanda Soo Ping Chow and sophomore Katie Gauch won the first point of the match with an 8-3 win over Robin Alsher and Christine Palazzolo at second doubles.
• Junior Sunaina Vohra and freshman Prerna Singh followed with an 8-5 win over Aileen Bevard and Kiley Addis at third. Sophomore Chrissy Simon and senior Anna Kankanala closed out doubles play with a 9-7 win over Caitlyn Sorelle and Ariel Danzinger.
• Simon pushed the Blue Jays' lead to four as she rallied to beat Bevard 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5). Kankanala then clinched the win as she also came from behind to win. She defeated Sorelle 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (8).
• Soo Ping Chow then beat Danzinger 6-0, 7-6 (3) at third. Due to the length of the match and being played indoors on limited courts, the match was called after the first three singles matches.

What it Means
• Hopkins falls to 2-6 all-time against Washington & Lee as the Generals snap the Blue Jays' two-match win streak in the series.
• Hopkins improves to 21-2 against Ursinus with its 19th consecutive win over the Bears.

For the Record
• Law moves into a tie for 18th in school history with 73 total wins in her career. She is also now tied for 17th with 37 career doubles wins.
• Kankanala is also tied for 17th as she earned her 37th career doubles win against the Bears. She now has 62 career wins in Centennial Conference (CC) matches, three shy of the program record. Kankanala is also one win shy of the program record for CC singles wins.

• Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, April 26 versus Washington College. The Centennial Conference match is slated for a 4:00 pm start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
