Johns Hopkins Defeats TCNJ in NCAA Second Round

• The Short Story: The 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat 32nd-ranked TCNJ, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16.

How it Happened
• Hopkins swept the doubles to take an early 3-0 lead over TCNJ. Seniors Mikey Barthelmass and Ashnaa Rao didn't need long to put the Blue Jays on top as they beat Maddy Stoner and Danna Tsay, 8-2, at first.
• Freshman Sophia Strickland and sophomore Kimberly Zou followed with an 8-5 win over Sneha Rangu and Audrey Chen to put the Jays up 2-0. Junior Caroline Greydak and senior Jody Law wrapped up doubles as they defeated Alyssa Baldi and Anna Prestera 8-3 at second.
• Strickland was first off the court for singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Katie Buchbinder to give Hopkins a 4-0 lead in the match.
• Mackenzie Holleran put the Lions on the board as she defeated sophomore Chrissy Simon 6-0, 6-3 at sixth. Rao then won 6-4, 6-0 at first over Rangu to send Hopkins to the Sweet 16.
• In the other matches, Law won her first set 6-3 and was leading 3-1 in the second over Brittany Reedman at second. Greydak was also up a set (6-4) and leading 3-0 at fourth over Prestera. And at fifth, Zou won the first 6-3 and was up 3-1 in the second over Baldi.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 7-0 all-time against TCNJ, including 4-0 in the NCAA Tournament.
• This is the fifth straight season that the Blue Jays have won at least 18 matches.
• Hopkins advances to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 10th straight season. The Blue Jays are 3-6 all-time in the Sweet 16.

For the Record
• Rao moves into a tie for second in program history with her fourth career NCAA Tournament singles win.
• Barthelmass is now tied for fourth in NCAA Tournament doubles wins with six. She also moved into a tie for 11th in school history with her 43rd career doubles win.
• Strickland now has 17 wins on the season, tied for ninth most by a freshman in school history.

• Hopkins takes on sixth-ranked Tufts on Sunday, May 14. The NCAA Sweet 16 match is slated for a 1:00 pm start at Tufts' Voute Courts.
