Johns Hopkins Bests Haverford in Centennial Semifinals

• The Short Story: The top-seeded Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat fourth-seeded Haverford, 5-0, in the Centennial Conference Semifinals Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped on top of Haverford by sweeping the doubles matches. Seniors Mikey Barthelmass and Ashnaa Rao opened the match as they beat Greta Koch and Abby Payson, 8-2, at first doubles.
• Freshman Sophia Strickland and junior Kimberly Zou followed quickly with an 8-1 win at third over Clara Farrehi and Jessica Liu. Junior Caroline Greydak and senior Jody Law completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at second against Jane Bary and Emily Shutman.
• The teams moved into singles play and just a few minutes in, the rain began and forced the match indoors. Once play resumed, Rao picked up the first singles point as she defeated Shutman 6-0, 6-1 at first to put Hopkins up 4-0.
• Sophomore Chrissy Simon then clinched the win and moved the Blue Jays into the title match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at third over Payson.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 23-7 all-time against Haverford and has won 22 straight in the series. The Blue Jays are now 7-0 against the Fords in the Centennial Conference Tournament.
• The Blue Jays advance to the CC Championship match for the 11th straight season. Hopkins is 10-0 in the CC Championship match.

For the Record
• Rao earned her 50th career singles win, tying her for sixth in program history.
• Barthelmass, Law and Greydak all moved into a tie for eighth in doubles wins in the Centennial Tournament with six each. Law is also tied for tied for 13th with 40 career doubles wins.

• Hopkins hosts 40th-ranked Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference title match on Sunday, May 7. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
