• The Short Story: Senior Clare Kavanagh scored her first career hat trick to lead the Johns Hopkins field hockey team to a 7-0 win over visiting Bryn Mawr Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Senior Morgan Pothast gave the Blue Jays the early lead as she scored just 6:26 into the game off a rebound. At the 15:16-mark, Kavanagh buried a back-handed shot from the top of the circle to stake Hopkins to a 2-0 lead.
• As the half neared the end, the Blue Jays got two more goals to take a 4-0 lead into the break. Senior Princess Sutherland one-timed a centering pass from freshman Valerie Henderson past Angela Meng with 5:17 to play in the half. Hopkins then capitalized on a corner with just 1:59 to play. Freshman Seema Sajjan struck the corner and senior Francesca Cali lifted a high shot over the outstretched stick of Meng and just under the crossbar.
• Sophomore Katie McErlean pushed the lead to five less than 10 minutes into the second half. She dribbled past several defenders before firing a low shot to the far post.
• Kavanagh then scored back-to-back goals just 63 seconds apart to extend Hopkins' lead to 7-0. Her second goal of the afternoon came when she back-handed a pass from Cali with 15:23 to play. She then redirected a ball from sophomore Maddie Stabinski to complete her hat trick.
