The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's swim team opened the dual-meet portion of its schedule on Saturday with a double dual meet at nearby UMBC. Hopkins topped Delaware, 189-90, but fell to host UMBC, 163-125.

• "I was impressed by the freshman who stepped up for some big swims," said head coach
Scott Armstrong. "It's impossible to name just one, but we were most impressed with the leadership from our seniors. They guided this young team through a grueling first competition and managed many best ever first swims of the season."
Top Finishers
• Hopkins opened with second and third-place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay. Seniors
Emile Kuyl and
Peter Lazorchak, sophomore
Nat Davenport and junior
Brandon Fabian grabbed second with a time of 1:33.95. Following in 1:36.29 was freshmen
Dylan Wachenfeld,
Max Chen and
Jeffrey Vitek and senior
Michael Wohl for third place.

Christopher Arena placed third in the 1000 Free as he touched in 9:49.61 and classmate
Riley Mears finished in fifth with a time of 10:00.80.
• Freshman
Noah Corbitt picked up a win in his first collegiate meet as he beat the field in the 200 Free with a time of 1:40.91. Freshman
Collin Hughes took third place as he clocked in at 1:41.99.
• Kuyl then finished in third place in the 100 Back with a time of 52.22 while sophomore
Matt McGough finished in fifth (52.84).
• Chen picked up his first collegiate win as he touched in 56.98 to win the 100 Breast. Lazorchak took third in 59.11, followed by junior
Jasper Van Cauwelaert in fourth in 59.76.
• Vitek grabbed second place in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:55.16 with senior
Erik Bostrom placing fifth in 1:57.09.
• Davenport then finished in second in the 50 Free as he touched in 21.38. Hughes followed in third place with a time of 21.61.
• The Blue Jays then went two-three-four in the 100 Free, led by Fabian with a time of 46.13. Corbitt claimed third place in 46.90 and Wohl took fourth in 47.63.
• Wachenfeld placed fourth in the 200 Back as he finished in 1:54.07.
• The 200 Breast saw JHU claim second, third and fifth-place finishes. Chen led the contingent with a time of 2:09.03, followed by Van Cauwelaert in third (2:12.36). Lazorchak finished in 2:18.31 for fifth place.
• Hughes then picked up his first win with a time of 4:39.21 in the 500 Free. Bostrom placed fourth in 4:47.92 and freshman
Mitchell Simmons placed fifth in 4:50.41.
• Vitek followed with a second-place finish in the 100 Fly as he clocked in at 51.65. Davenport placed fifth with his time of 52.32.
• In the final individual event of the day, Chen took second place in the 200 IM in 1:57.96. McGough followed in third place (1:58.15) and sophomore
Noah Frassrand placed fourth (1:59.25).
• Hopkins wrapped up the day with second and fourth-place finishes in the 400 Free Relay. Davenport, Fabian, Hughes and Corbitt claimed second with a time of 3:07.10. Taking fourth were Simmons, Kuyl, Wohl and Lazorchak in 3:14.01.

• Hopkins is back in action on Friday, October 19 with a quad meet in Annapolis, MD. In addition to host Navy, Hopkins will compete against William & Mary and Towson. The meet is slated for a 4:00 pm start at Lejeune Hall.
