The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins water polo team rolled to an 18-6 win over McKendree in the consolation bracket of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championships Saturday.

How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to a 7-0 lead in a run that spanned the opening 10 and a half minutes. Seniors
Josh Kurtz and
Andreas Katsis fueled the run with a pair of goals each. Joseph Mahon got the Bearcats on the board at the 4:25-mark in the second quarter, but the Blue Jays answered with goals from freshman
Jayden Kunwar and Kurtz. The teams traded goals in the final 75 seconds and Hopkins took a 10-2 lead into the half.

Ryan Masi opened the third-quarter scoring just 45 seconds in with a man-up goal to push the lead to nine. McKendree answered with back-to-back goals just 28 seconds apart to make it an 11-4 game. Junior
Finn Banks scored a man-up goal at the 4:52-mark, sparking a six-goal Blue Jay spurt that saw the lead balloon to 17-4 with 3:34 remaining. The Bearcats got two more quick goals to pull within 11, but a third goal from Katsis closed out the win. Â

• Today's game was the first-ever meeting between Hopkins and McKendree.
• Hopkins will take on Navy in the fifth-place match on Sunday.

• Banks, Kurtz, Katsis and Kunwar all notched hat tricks for the Blue Jays. Banks also handed out three assists to finish with a team-best six points. Katsis and Kunwar each had two helpers to finish with five points apiece.
